Yesterday evening, on the NED 1 Prime time TV talkshow, ‘Pauw en Witteman’, an ‘Everybody’ contribution was used to help illustrate the collapse of the Dutch DSB Bank (a struggling consumer and mortgage lender).
The Dutch central bank shuttered DSB Bank NV, after a run by depositors that followed a call from a consumer group to pull money out of the controversial institution. Everybody likes to comment in a visual way those things that are happening in society and concerns us all. DSB bank is also a sponsor of a number of sports including Dutch premier football league champions AZ.
Everybody used the figure of the skater from the logo of the DSB bank and placed a hole in the ice in front of him, reminiscent of the Warner Bros. cartoons to show the upcoming danger which the bank and it’s customers face.

I was once told – years ago, that all designers are a little bit OCD. In my case it is more than a little true, lord knows I can spend hours sweating over the kerning of a single word in a headline, or checking 6 times that I put crop marks on the last PDF file I put to the printers’… But this guy… This guy brings a new meaning to the old adage, attention to detail.
For example, not content with reading Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, he remixed it. Took the words, every word, rearranged them into different categories of emotion, and made them look beautiful. It’s quite a stunning example of the length he will go to make things. It’s kind of scary when you see it, cos it simply makes me want to take that straight column of copy I just laid out and make it messy… Beautiful but messy.
It’s incredible to see how far one individual will go to make his or her art, and in this case Sam goes the extra mile, then runs another marathon. Spend some time wondering around the work section of his website and you will come away thinking differently about everything. Take your mouse button to smackdown town over the picture and go to his website.
Everybody says Sam’s work is incredible, and should be admired. Do it.

Ok, so we often repeat ourselves here, but this is another case of things being better kept simple. Simple is good. So while looking to grab some shelves for the West Wing of the Everybody towers, which houses our extensive library… OK, OK, it’s so I can get the pile of books off my desk, we found this great set of flexible shelves by American Designer Pete Oyler.
His solution is heavy duty elastic bands which are stretched around steel pegs affixed to the wall. Brilliant. Everybody hopes this is available in Europe cos we need somewhere to put all our stuff, Somewhere that isn’t the corner of my desk!
He’s a recent graduate of the Rhode Island school of design, his work is great and would fit in most people’s lives. Bacon table being a great example of cast concrete, lord knows we love concrete! bash the mouse button on the picture above to go to Pete’s site to have a look at his impressive portfolio.
Anyway, as ever, Everybody loves this idea, and is looking forward to what Pete comes up with next!

*We can’t promise more than before, but we certainly will try.
OK. First rule of blogging is to not apologise for not posting in a while. In our case it’s been ages… but still, we’ve been really busy, and one of our business partners had a baby, so all hands on deck really. So due to emails and a couple of requests we’ve put a few hours aside to post a few things to say hello and remind you who we are. If you’re new to us, hello, if you’re an old reader then, welcome back… it’s good to see you again.
Everybody says enough with the pleasantries, here’s some stuff.
You might have noticed recently, there has been the odd day when it’s got really cold, this winter especially. We found a great way to get away from that creeping cold though… one which doesn’t involved fire and brandy.
These “sleeping bags with arms and legs” are intended as just that, sleeping bags but I can see us wrapped up nice and snug in the evening watching television and doing all the things you normally do. See, unlike most sleeping bags, these give you the ability to use your hands without exposing the top half of your body, something which always annoyed me. They are intended for those hard code campers who need to sleep out in the wilds, but they are more than likely going to be used for raves or by people just wanting to stay snuggly warm in the house. (No, I’m not talking about my wife.)
These are, again a simple solution to a simple problem that no one bother to solve until now. The picture above takes you to a Dutch distributor where you can buy these wonder bags.
Everybody says… Genius and thanks for keeping us warm, and making us look like ‘teletubbies’.

It’s been a while since we showed you any furniture in the form of a chair on the blog, so here is a nice little chair, named after the Everybody headquarters’ hometown of Rotterdam. Designed by Dutch designer Hella Jongerius, it’s a stackable wooden chair commissioned by Vitra. Her idea was to produce a modern chair which was economic to produce, hence the choice of wood for the main material.
Everybody likes this chair and wouldn’t mind a few around the huge boardroom table here at Everybody Towers in Rotterdam. OK there isn’t a huge boardroom table… erm, or any towers, but they would look good around the table in the studio we sit around to eat our lunch.
One of the up and coming designers currently doing the rounds is a guy called Benjamin Hubert. He graduated Loughborough University in 2006 and has steadily been picking up awards and much acclaim since then.
He designed the wonderful light, shown above, called Dandilight whose inspiration comes from those little Dandilion seedheads that litter the final weeks of springs, and looks incredible. It is also worth noting that the lamp looks equally as good when it is switched off, being a cast white resin.
The light is available in two formats, floor standing and hanging, in two sizes (300mm and 450mm dia.) and is available to commission, no details of price other than that.
This piece really does go to show that inspiration is all around us, be it industrial, static, or as in this case, organic and is there for the taking. We must all suck up the inspiration, be it first hand as in Benjamin’s case or second hand, in the case of anyone who sees the lamp Benjamin has created.
Everybody loves these lamps and wants to have a few installed in the new office when we get in there, maybe even have a few on slightly flexible stands near a fan so they sway in the breeze… Mmmmm. Thanks Benjamin, we love this, we just hope if doesn’t give us huge hayfever!
Hello. Welcome to the Everybody blog. Everybody is a Design Consultancy based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and wants to change how you think about design.
Keep coming back here to interact with us and other like minded individuals. We’ll be posting anything from things that have inspired us to reviews of books and shows we’ve seen. It’s great to see you and we hope to see you again soon.
